About Us

Boroondara Kids is a community-based educational program catering for children of all backgrounds in Grades 2 -5.  The program offers a complimentary experience to school by focusing on the holistic wellbeing and character development of children.

In this busy, challenging and changing world it is becoming increasingly necessary for young children to develop and become aware of their spiritual qualities. These inner-most qualities, known as virtues, are fundamental building blocks of character and when drawn out from children, we witness a profound change in how children relate to each other, their family and those around them.  Examples of these qualities are kindness, honesty, compassion, service and gratitude.  Children also explore themes such as oneness, unity of humanity, faith and service.

Boroondara Kids was initiated by a group of parents and youth working collaboratively, to create local community spaces that foster the development of their own children and those in the neighbourhood.  The program is offered free as a service to the community and is supported by the Baha’i Community of Boroondara as one of their community building initiatives.

Holiday Program Sessions

Boroondara Kids also host holiday programs throughout the year and aim to provide a unique opportunity for primary school aged children from diverse backgrounds, to come together and intensively explore a specific topic. The half day format provides an opportunity for a large number of children to meet and learn from each other.  On the day will see children involved in large and small group activities using the arts, sports, drama and collaborative games where topics such as Resilience, Friendship, Collaboration, Flexibility and Respect are explored.

Held centrally in Boroondara, registration details of these holiday programs can be found here

Please share our flyer and invite others to embrace in this experience.

Fortnightly Sessions

Our fortnightly Tuesday afternoon sessions are a community-based educational program offered to primary school children from Grades 2-5. Children from all backgrounds are welcome and the sessions are a special chance to come together to explore different virtues and ways in which children can contribute to giving back to the world around them. Examples of these topics we explore include kindness, honesty, resilience, service, collaboration and gratitude.

Through engaging activities like arts, crafts, sports, drama, and collaborative games, children not only learn but also share their experiences with one another. These regular sessions foster ongoing individual growth, allowing children to explore real-life concepts and skills in a supportive and interactive environment.

Once a term the children are also involved in planning and undertaking a service project to help their local community. Children have throughout enjoyed participating in these initiatives as feel a huge sense of accomplishment and pride. Some example of service we have done include collecting funds for The Red Shield Appeal, cleaning the park, assisting a local community centre with cleaning up their gardens and decorating for a cultural festival.
